Privacy Policy

The Northam for Senate campaign (RNS) is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information that you submit to us online.  We have created this privacy policy to help you understand when and how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and protected when you use the Northam for Senate web site (the "Site").

Collection of Personal Information
RNS collects a variety of personal information about the users of our services.  Personal information is information that can be directly associated with a specific person or entity such as a name, address, telephone number, e-mail address or information about activities directly linked to that person.  For example, we collect personal information about you when you register for our services.

Our definition of personal information does not include "aggregate" information.  Aggregate information is data we collect about a group or category of services or users from which individual user identities have been removed.  For example, we may compile a report that indicates that a certain number of our users visit certain pages on our Site.  Aggregate data helps us understand trends and user needs so that we can better consider new services or tailor existing services to user desires.

Use of Personal Information
We may use personal information to provide you, upon your request, with information via e-mail regarding events, resources, and issues that we think might interest you.  If you do not wish to receive such e-mails, you may remove yourself from our email list at any time by visiting sending an email to remove@northam2007.com with the word "remove" in the subject line.

Disclosure of Personal Information
RNS will only disclose personal information with your consent or to comply with a lawful order to disclose such information.

Protection of Personal Information
We maintain a variety of physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect your personal information.   For example, we use accepted tools and techniques in an effort to protect against unauthorized access to our systems.

In addition, we work to protect the security of your personal information during transmission via the Site (when you register for our email list) by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, which encrypts information you input.  You should know that RNS has no control over the security of other Web sites on the Internet you might visit, interact with, or from which you buy products or services.

RNS maintains e-mail lists of users.  We configure our list server software to keep the e-mail addresses of users confidential.  Because RNS is not the author of this software, however, we are not responsible for any failure in the software to preserve user anonymity.

Your own efforts to protect against unauthorized access play an important role in protecting the security of your personal information.  You should keep your personal information secure, you should also be sure to sign off when finished using a shared computer, and always log out of any Web site after viewing personal information.

Cookies/IP Addresses & Browser Information/Web Beacons
Cookies.   We do not use cookies on the Site.

IP Addresses & Browser Information.  We automatically receive certain types of information whenever you visit the Site.  For example, we log Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, which are the locations of computers or networks on the Internet.  We also collect information about the type of browser you use.  We use this information to track how users are referred to the Site, and which pages on the Site users visit.  This information is not correlated to a user's personal information.

Web Beacons.   The Site does not use "Web beacons."  Web beacons, also known as "Web bugs," are graphic images embedded in Web pages, Web-based documents or e-mail messages that are designed to allow a Web site owner or a third party to monitor the address and other information of the Web site viewing the item.

Additional Information About our Privacy Practices
Opting Out.   Users may opt out of receiving e-mails from RNS by sending email to remove@northam2007.com and including the word "remove" in the subject line. Opting out does not remove information about the user from RNS's records.

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.   Children are not eligible to use our services and we ask that minors do not submit any personal information to us.  RNS does not ask for or knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13.

Links to Other Sites.   From time to time, the Site may contain links to other Web sites, such as, for example, the link to the General Assembly of Virginia's web site.  Links to other web sites are provided for your convenience.  RNS is not responsible for the content of these linked web sites or their privacy practices; nor does a link from our site to another web site indicate our endorsement of its services or policies.  We encourage you to learn about the privacy practices of each Web site before providing the Web site with personal information.

Changes to the Northam for Senate Online Privacy Policy.   RNS reserves the right to revise or update this privacy policy.  If we do so, we will change the date at the top accordingly.  You should refer back to this page often for the latest information.  Such changes to this privacy policy will not apply retroactively.
